Keep Indianapolis Beautiful
2008 Monumental Affair Award Winner - Achievement Award for Landscape Architecture
Incorporating urban green design, the new Keep Indianapolis Beautiful headquarters has revitalized the northeast corridor of Fountain Square and will impact the surrounding community for years to come.
This transformation of a former brownfield includes pervious concrete, wind turbines, a rain harvesting cistern, a pocket park and raingarden. The raingarden, pocket park and other landscape materials are native to Indiana and reduce watering and maintenance needs. During construction, deteriorating sidewalks were removed but were integrated back into the site as benches located in the pocket park. Within the building you will find a landscaped courtyard visible to employees at all workstations. This feature provides natural light for the building, and is highly used by employees as a meeting space.
This site and facility is a model for sustainable urban design for the City, and leaves a positive lasting impact on the community.
