Agricultural Testing Facility
Designing for Scale and Precision
Scaling Agricultural Testing Operations
A national agricultural testing provider was experiencing rapid growth, requiring a facility capable of processing and analyzing large volumes of soil and plant samples with speed and accuracy. Existing operations supported the work, but lacked the integration needed to fully optimize performance at scale.
Complex Processes, Fragmented Systems
Testing workflows relied on a mix of manual handling, separated lab functions, and limited coordination between processing and analysis. As volume increased, these inefficiencies created risks to consistency, safety, and turnaround time, limiting the organization’s ability to expand its services nationally.
Designing for Throughput and Precision
Synthesis worked closely with the client and engineering team to design a 40,000-square-foot high-throughput laboratory facility that integrates processing, sorting, and analysis into a single, coordinated system. General use and specialized labs are strategically organized to align with industrial-scale equipment and automated conveyance, allowing samples to move efficiently through each stage of testing. The facility includes 30,000 square feet of laboratory space, 10,000 square feet of offices, and a 4,000-square-foot observation mezzanine that provides a clear view into operations, supporting both internal collaboration and external engagement.
A High-Performance Lab Environment
The new facility enables safer, cleaner, and more efficient operations while significantly increasing testing capacity and reliability. Designed to process more than one million soil samples and 100,000 plant samples annually, it positions the organization to deliver consistent, high-quality results at a national scale.
