Synthesis partnered with Purdue University to transform underutilized basement areas of the Cordova Recreation & Wellness Center into a vibrant new gaming lounge. The renovation reconfigures multiple rooms, upgrades adjoining corridors, refreshes a viewing room for ADA compliance, and creates supporting infrastructure including an IT closet.
Our team guided the project from design through construction administration, coordinating architecture, interiors, structural, mechanical, electrical, and technology systems. Key improvements included:
Reworking circulation and new wall openings to strengthen connections within the lower level.
Integrating durable finishes, new ceilings, lighting, and modernized MEP systems.
Providing infrastructure for more than two dozen computer stations, AV equipment, and data connectivity.
Ensuring accessibility and life-safety upgrades throughout the renovated areas.
By aligning Purdue’s vision with thoughtful design and technical coordination, the project delivers a flexible, tech-ready lounge that enhances the student experience and activates previously overlooked square footage within the Rec Center. This renovation was recognized with a 2025 NIRSA Outstanding Facilities Award, highlighting its innovation in collegiate recreational facility design.
