Location: West Lafayette, IN
[NOT WRITTEN YET, OLD PROJECT INFO...]

Synthesis is proud to contribute to the Simon Moon Park expansion, transforming the park from 5.85 acres to over 25 acres in collaboration with the City of Westfield Parks and Recreation Department and V3 Companies. Our work is turning a former wastewater site into a vibrant community space.

Phase 1 Highlights
In Phase 1, which began in early April, we reshaped the sledding hill, improved the entrance and expanded the parking lot, and reconnected the ponds to the stormwater infrastructure, reopening the Midland Trace Trail. This phase also introduced safer trail alignments, new fishing piers, and boardwalks, with completion expected by December 2024.

Phase 2 Plans
Looking ahead to Phase 2, starting in June 2025, the expansion will feature a new playground, outdoor education classroom, additional park shelters, and more boardwalks. These enhancements will further enrich the park experience for the Westfield community.

Our design philosophy draws inspiration from the 18th-century gardens at Stourhead, utilizing architectural “follies” to engage visitors with the natural landscape. Key elements include an outdoor shelter with a multi-tiered butterfly roof and rainwater collection system, and a Sledding Pavilion providing a warm space by the sledding hill.
Community Enhancements
We also expanded the picnic and playground areas with new shelters and shade structures, making the park a more inviting and functional space. These improvements reflect our commitment to creating engaging, sustainable environments that foster community connections and environmental stewardship.
